Cocobopro No. 5
Key Map to the Itineraries
A 20-part collaborative collage book project with Rhed Fawell (Edinburgh, Scotland)
My email records show that I introduced myself to Rhed Fawell after becoming familiar with her work on Tumblr in December, 2017. I admire her work, and noted her geographic location: Scotland. My wife and I have a fascination with Great Britain, and had plans to take a holiday to England and Scotland during the summer of 2018. Within the first half dozen email exchanges, I had invited Rhed to engage in the 5th Cocobopro, and was delighted she accepted; the stage was set for the first in-person hand-off of the project later that year, and sure enough, it happened. In mid-June, we met at the National Gallery in Edinburgh, and she handed me the goods over coffee at Waverley Station. I like the idea of meeting all of my co-collaborators in their home towns some day.
Also worth noting, this is also the only one of the Cocobopros which I started and finished—the plan (see below) was written to work the other way around.
The Cocobopros[COllaborative COllage BOok PROjects]work like this:
A collagist is invited to send ten 2-sided 5″ x 7″ boards with some or all surfaces started with any analogue collage technique. I work on them on send them back. He or she works on them a second time and sends them back to me. This goes back and forth two more times until I have had the opportunity to work on them three times, and the artist who started them has the opportunity to handle them a fourth time, with the duty of adding or removing as necessary, to complete the project and call it done. When they are finished, I create high resolution digital images and publish a limited print edition in hand-stitched booklet format (for sale) through The Heavy Duty Press, and an unlimited ebook edition (free download).
Print versions of the books will be available after the first five Cocobopros have been completed.
